West My Friend w/ Local Friends TBA

West My Friend:

Described as everything from indie-roots to chamber-folk, West My Friend has an acoustic blend of instruments and four-part harmonies that challenges the conventions of popular music. The band features pure and thrillingly elastic vocals with catchy arrangements of bass, guitar, mandolin, and accordion that draw from jazz, classical, folk, and pop influences. Inspired by artists such as Owen Pallett, Joanna Newsom, Bright Eyes, The Decemberists, and the Punch Brothers, and forged from a sonically adventurous acoustic music scene on Canada’s west coast, West My Friend is proving to be a key part of a new generation of grassroots folk music.

Pages from the Oak Tree & Primitive Samples

Peter Mckillop is coming home to Vernon and bringing his Pender Island band, Pages From The Oak Tree with him!

Starting as street performers in Victoria, Pages from the Oak Tree are something between Louisiana Blues and Eastern European old time. Bringing a Baltic twist to a warm folk sound and covering it in a heavy dose of foot stomping rhythm and heart warming harmonies. These three folks blend six instruments into a macabre sing-a-long and pour it over a waltzing old-time mosh pit.

Hazell Udy: Banjo, Vocals, Musical saw.
Peter Mckillop: Guitar, Percussion, Vocals.
Adrian Schamberger: Upright Bass.

Primitive Samples:
Okanagan-based MC Dorsal Fin and producer/MC Zero combine like Voltron to form the 21st century's answer to the Beastie Boys. Primitive Samples throws back to the raw grit and authenticity of nineties boom-bap with modern flow and wild braggadocio.

Tiger Moon Vinyl Release Vernon

Get set for Tiger Moon's very first full-length release Cariboo & Whiskey comes out June 2017!

Tiger Moon is a West Canadian folk duo. Boasting harmonious sounds, heartfelt melodies, and foot-stomping rhythms, this is a pair to be reckoned with. They perform with a guitar, mandolin, two sets of boots and two big, rich voices. Drawing their sound from traditional folk, Canadiana, soul and rock, they are a minimalist barn-burning band with syrup-soaked harmonies.

They took a team up to the Cariboo Mountain Region of BC to record a piece of Canadiana, and this is the album they emerged from the mountains with. They also recorded a documentary on the making of the album, soon to be available on DVD and online video streaming hosts.

Recorded in the 19th century gold rush town of Barkerville, BC, 'Cariboo & Whiskey' is a unique expression of West Canadian Folk. It blends folk with country, and it's drizzled with Tiger Moon's signature syrup-soaked vocal harmonies. It's an upbeat, fun-loving album, with a little bit of heartache and lament mixed in for good measure.

Good friend of Tiger Moon, Canadian contemporary singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lowell Friesen combines a tender hearted sensitivity, an edgy simmering angst and a dash of tongue in cheek humour to his brand of modern/folk, alt/country music.

Raine Hamilton w/ Brett Nelson

Prairie songstress Raine Hamilton writes resonant, acoustic folk with an other-worldly edge, and a lyric presence that cuts deep.

Raine invites her love of the violin into the singer-songwriter genre, writing for violin and voice, as well as for guitar and voice. Raine is part prairie songstress, part storyweaver; Each song has a story, delivered between songs with humour and grace. Expect to laugh, expect to cry. Also, she’s probably shorter than you’re imagining, so expect that, too.

This summer, her prism-clear voice and sage songs will be ringing through the stonescape of the Canadian Shield, the exposed flatlands of the prairies, and the tall tops of the BC mountains on her Rock and a Tall Place Tour. Raine's songs combine the exposed honesty of the Canadian Shield bedrock, the open resonance of the prairie, and the brave reach of the mountain range; Her songs are connected with the land, drawn from lived experience, and created from the inside out. The result is a moving, honest, and vulnerable acoustic experience that blends Raine's graceful storytelling and cutting lyrics with her Joni Mitchell-esque vocal agility, and that affords safe passage to the rough and beautiful places.

http://www.rainehamilton.com/

Brett Nelson brings an elegance and poetic fascination to the singer-songwriter genre. His carefully gritty fingerstyle guitar-playing gives landscape to meticulous lyrical weavings reflective of a decade spent in migration. Performing for gatherings from Winnipeg to Madison County, California to Halifax, and at music festivals around Canada, Brett Nelson inexhaustibly embraces the mirror held up by an attentive audience, allowing for an inclusive evolution in his songwriting.
